Dr. Chris Hutchinson (Chairman)
I am a retired General Practitioner, having been a partner at the Castle Practice in Norwich for over 30 years, where my particular interests were diabetes, medicine for the elderly and travel medicine. I come from the Lake District but have been settled in Norwich since 1984 despite the lack of hills. I have become a keen birdwatcher and travelled widely, usually on wildlife watching trips.

Prof. David Scott (Secretary)
I am a retired academic Rheumatologist and spent much of my career at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, where I led work on arthritis and vasculitis. I’ve been actively involved with medical charities and professional bodies, and was President of the British Society for Rheumatology. Originally from Scotland, I’ve lived in Norfolk for nearly forty years. Outside of medicine, I enjoy running—albeit slowly—and playing golf when time allows.

Mr Surjait M Singh
I’m a retired Consultant General and Vascular Surgeon, having worked at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King’s Lynn for over 20 years. I trained in the UK and the US, and have held educational, mentoring, and leadership roles with the Royal College of Surgeons. I remain active in medical support work and serve as Chair of the BMA Retired Members Conference. I’m passionate about mentoring and advocating for doctors across all stages of their careers.

Dr. Daphne Rumball
I’m a retired Consultant Psychiatrist with a focus on addiction medicine. I led drug and alcohol services in Norfolk and contributed to national policy and medical education. I’ve published widely and held trustee roles in academic and clinical charities. Since retiring, I’ve taken a more hands-on role in local wildlife conservation, fundraising and supporting environmental projects in the region I’ve long called home.

Dr. Mary Jane Platt
Mary is a Retired Professor of Medical Education (Norwich Medical School), and Honorary Public Health Consultant, who moved to Norfolk in 2010, and joined the Committee in 2023.

Lesley Bowker
I moved to Norfolk in 2001 to become a Consultant Geriatrician at the NNUH and later helped launch the Norwich Medical School, where I remain an Honorary Professor. I’ve balanced clinical medicine and medical education throughout my career, and I’ve lived in central Norwich with my family ever since. I’ve been part of the NBMS committee for over 20 years, with a particular interest in supporting medical students.

James Rowson
James is a salaried GP in Paston Surgery, North Walsham, having been involved in the NBMS since his graduation from the University of East Anglia in 2015. James is also a representative to the Norfolk and Waveney LMC, previous regional junior doctor representative to the BMA, and is a trustee of the City of Norwich Aviation Museum. He has always believed in ensuring the welfare of staff and colleagues and is is delighted to be involved in this society.

Ian Hume
I’ve been a GP in South Norfolk since 1993 and continue to practise in Diss. I’ve always been passionate about supporting and representing the medical profession, having served as Chair and Medical Secretary of the Norfolk and Waveney LMC, and as a regional representative on the BMA’s GP Committee and UK Council. I also provide pastoral support for doctors and have worked in advisory roles with the NHS, particularly around cancer services and professional standards.
